RECOACTIV® Immune Tonicum for cats is an appetite-stimulating dietary supplement for the nutritional-physiological restoration of poorly eating and weakened cats as a result of general malaise, illness or surgery, as well as in cases of hepatic lipidosis ("fatty liver"). Thanks to its excellent acceptance, RECOACTIV® Immune fulfils the function of an appetite stimulant and encourages cats to eat on their own, even during difficult food changes.
RECOACTIV® Immune for cats stimulates the appetite, provides the animals with sufficient fluids and supplies easily digestible, high-quality proteins, vitamins and trace elements.
Due to its liquid form, urgently needed nutrients can be easily absorbed even in the case of painful diseases of the teeth, gums and mouth and throat, as the chewing and swallowing apparatus is only subjected to minimal stress.</p
RECOACTIV® Immune for cats is very well tolerated over the long term and is effectively absorbed in the intestine due to its consistency. It also stimulates food intake* during illness and convalescence as well as in cases of general loss of appetite and food refusal. In this way, RECOACTIV® strengthens and supplies the animal with important vital substances, prevents deficiency symptoms and makes an important contribution to the prevention and treatment of cats.
Why cats don't eat
Lack of appetite is a common phenomenon in cats and there are many reasons for this. While high temperatures or new food, for example, can temporarily cause "upset", other causes are more serious and should be investigated and treated quickly. If there is pain or deeper medical reasons and the cat stops eating for a longer period of time, a vet should definitely be consulted!
However, most causes of inappetance are harmless and can be influenced by the pet owner. Possible reasons for inappetence in cats are:
- A sudden change of food - a change of food should be made gradually and over a longer period of time, the food should always be fresh
- Stress - a change of environment, e.g. due to moving house or the death of a housemate, can temporarily affect their mood
- difficulties with teeth and in the mouth and throat that cause pain when eating
- Unwellness due to fever, infections or parasites
- Organ diseases such as renal insufficiency
Why is it critical if cats do not eat for a longer period of time
In contrast to dogs, for example, a prolonged refusal to eat is critical in cats. Cats are so-called carnivores, which means that they feed mainly and regularly on prey animals and their proteins. If this supply of protein is lacking due to cessation or restriction of food intake, the metabolism falls back on the body's own fat reserves. However, due to a lack of adaptability, the dissolved fat is not completely broken down into energy and accumulates in the liver. Prolonged fasting ultimately leads to so-called hepatic lipidosis, a life-threatening, acute fatty degeneration of the liver. In this case, it must be ensured immediately and consistently that the animal is supplied with plenty of moisture and energy, in extreme cases by force-feeding. Immediate food intake is an absolute prerequisite for recovery! Regular food intake is essential for keeping cats healthy; moist food with high-quality proteins and without grain is preferable.
RECOACTIV® products contain important vitamins and trace elements and are made from natural, food-grade ingredients. They are free from grain, sugar, colourings and preservatives.
*In cooperation with the Institute of Animal Nutrition at the Free University of Berlin, Department of Veterinary Medicine, a scientific study has shown that RECOACTIV® both promotes the intake of water and significantly stimulates the appetite of cats and increases their food intake.
The RECOACTIV® Kidney Tonic is available for cats with kidney dysfunction and (chronic) renal insufficiency.
An adult cat of normal weight receives 10 ml per day.
In acute nutritional crises, the administration of up to 3 x 10 ml per day is recommended until the animal returns to normal eating behaviour.
The RECOACTIV® Immune Tonicum can be administered pure or via the food. Acceptance is highest at room temperature and is particularly recommended if the cat is eating insufficiently. In the case of critical food refusal, it has proven to be a good idea to gradually lick the tonic from the finger or give it by syringe (without cannula!) into the mouth until the animal has become accustomed to the tonic and appetite is restored.
