The RECOACTIV® Renaltan Tonicum is a tasty supplementary feed with phosphate binder for cats with kidney dysfunction. With the help of the calcium carbonate phosphate binder it contains, the excess phosphate is bound in the stomach to form indigestible complexes and excreted directly. Filtration via the already weakened kidneys therefore takes place to a much lesser extent and the burden on the kidneys is significantly reduced without jeopardising the cat's protein supply.
In cats with chronic renal insufficiency (CRF) and advanced stages (IRIS phase III + IV), the use of a phosphate binder makes an important contribution to therapy. However, the administration of a phosphate binder is also recommended in early stages (IRIS I + II) and in older animals with age-related weakening kidney function in order to counteract a deterioration in organ health.
If the changeover to a phosphate-reduced renal diet is difficult or is not accepted by the cat at all, the administration of a phosphate binder with the usual "normal" food is a suitable alternative until the changeover to the new food has been successful. In advanced stages of renal dysfunction, a combination of phosphate binder and renal diet is indicated.
If a phosphate binder is used, regular monitoring of the blood values by a vet is recommended.
RECOACTIV® products contain important vitamins and trace elements and are made from natural, food-grade ingredients. They are free from cereals, colourings and preservatives.
*In collaboration with the Institute of Animal Nutrition at the Free University of Berlin, Department of Veterinary Medicine, a scientific study has shown that RECOACTIV® both promotes the intake of water and significantly stimulates the appetite of cats and increases their food intake.
An average cat (approx. 4.5 kg) receives 10 ml per day.
The RECOACTIV® Renaltan Tonicum is administered with the food to ensure a balanced intake. The product should be mixed well with the feed. If the animal is fed several times a day, the amount of tonic to be administered should be divided accordingly.
